Netflix’s crime thriller Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders had its world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa and will hit Netflix globally on 19 December 2025. The film continues the universe introduced by the first Raat Akeli Hai and promises a darker, more layered mystery.
What the film is about
Directed by Honey Trehan and written by Smita Singh, the story picks up in Kanpur when the influential Bansal family is discovered murdered inside their mansion. Inspector Jatil Yadav, played again by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, takes on the case and uncovers intersecting trails of power, deception, belief and long-buried secrets. The film digs into the emotional and moral cost of finding the truth.

Filmmakers and reactions
Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, said the sequel “deepens the mood and mystery that defined the first installment,” and called the new mystery more ambitious and emotionally grounded. Director Honey Trehan described the film as an exploration of “the price of truth and the corruption of conscience,” adding that debuting at IFFI — a festival that celebrates authentic storytelling — made the premiere especially meaningful.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui shared that returning to Jatil’s world felt familiar yet challenging, noting the character is taken to new emotional and moral places in this chapter.
