Golmaal 5 gears up to roll in Film City, Mumbai
The fifth instalment of the Golmaal franchise is finally moving into production. Director Rohit Shetty and his team are planning a large-scale shoot that, industry insiders say, will begin a marathon schedule towards the end of February 2026. In a notable shift, much of the filming is set to happen at Film City, Mumbai rather than Shetty’s usual locations like Ramoji Film City or Goa.
Shoot locations and elaborate sets
Production is building multiple permanent-looking sets inside Film City — a café, a police station, a palatial residence and more. Production sources indicate these sets will be ready by the beginning of next month, allowing the shoot to proceed without location-hopping. With the core shoot centred in Mumbai, the cast will be able to commute from home, which should make scheduling easier for everyone involved.
Why Mumbai this time?
- Saves travel time for actors and crew.
- Allows building several detailed sets under one roof, speeding up transitions between scenes.
- Offers logistical convenience for a packed schedule and ensemble cast.
Star cast: familiar faces and a comeback
Golmaal 5 will bring back the franchise’s beloved comic ensemble: Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu. Fans have another reason to smile — Sharman Joshi, who appeared in the original Golmaal (2006), is reported to be returning to the series.
One intriguing twist this time around is the choice of antagonist. Word is that the central villain will be a female, which could open fresh comic conflicts and dynamics for the gang.
Production timeline and release plans
The planned intensive schedule from late February 2026 should keep the team busy through several months. Industry chatter points to a possible release in 2027, giving the makers enough time for post-production, VFX and marketing for what promises to be another big-family-entertainment outing.
How the Golmaal rights changed hands
The Golmaal franchise has an interesting rights history. The first film was produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, after which the rights were reportedly held by Dhilin Raj (Harshad) Mehta. Trade talk says those rights were later transferred to Tejpal (Rajubhai) Shah of the T A Shah Group. Shah then assigned the franchise rights to Rohit Shetty for substantial sums per film, allowing Shetty to expand Golmaal into a multi-part franchise.
What to expect
- Classic Golmaal-style comedy with twists and bigger production values.
- An ensemble reunion peppered with fresh faces and a female antagonist.
- Large sets in Mumbai that should give a cohesive look to the film’s world.
Fans of the franchise can look forward to more updates as the shoot gets underway. With the key cast back and Rohit Shetty at the helm, Golmaal 5 aims to deliver the same high-energy comedy that made the series a box-office staple.
