Dhurandhar, one of the most anticipated films of the year, opens in cinemas tomorrow, December 5. While the movie was slated for an IMAX release — a move that excited many fans — exhibition sources say there may be a hiccup on opening day: IMAX content delivery has been delayed, so some IMAX venues could have to show a non-IMAX version on Friday.
IMAX delivery delayed — what we know
Exhibition sources told Bollywood Hungama that the IMAX files for Dhurandhar did not arrive on time. The makers are working to fix the issue, but theatres have been warned to prepare the non-IMAX print for Friday shows if the IMAX content doesn’t arrive.
There’s still a chance the IMAX presentation could begin Friday evening, but the safer bet is that true IMAX screenings may only start on Saturday. Organisers expect a clearer picture by Thursday night.
Will your show be affected?
- If you booked an IMAX ticket for Friday, check with your cinema before heading out — some venues may play the standard version in IMAX auditoriums.
- The overseas delivery delay has also been reported to affect early shows in markets like Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, so international audiences should verify local timings.
- There’s no word yet on refunds or exchanges; theatres will likely update policies if major changes are required.
Big film, big cast, big runtime
Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh in the lead, supported by Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. The film is written, produced and directed by Aditya Dhar of Uri: The Surgical Strike fame, and is backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar.
The Central Board of Film Certification lists Dhurandhar’s final runtime at 214 minutes (3 hours 34 minutes). It’s a two-part saga and, as previously revealed, the first half runs about two hours and four minutes — underscoring the film’s epic scale and why IMAX was the preferred format.
Final note for viewers
The trailer promises a cinematic, large-scale experience best enjoyed on the biggest screens. If you’re planning an IMAX visit on opening day, confirm with your cinema tonight. Either way, Dhurandhar is arriving with high expectations and should be a major talking point all weekend.
