Second-weekend windfall: Dhurandhar defies expectations
Dhurandhar surprised everyone in its second weekend, raking in a massive Rs. 146.60 crore between Day 8 and Day 10. What began as a fair opening quickly escalated into strong weekday business, convincing trade experts that the film’s momentum was far from over.
Why cinemas refused the Tuesday discount
A source told Bollywood Hungama that distributors decided not to roll out the usual Tuesday Rs. 99 discount because demand remained “incredible” after the weekend. Cinemas were instructed to maintain blockbuster pricing throughout the week, and a solid hold on second Monday has already vindicated that call.
A rare industry move
Since the Tuesday offer began on April 22, 2025, almost every big release has used it at least in Week 2. Only Raid 2 and Sitaare Zameen Par stayed away from the discount in Week 1 — and both applied it later. Dhurandhar is the first film to skip the Tuesday offer twice, marking an unusual strategy that reflects its box-office strength.
What’s next: holidays, Tuesdays and a sequel
- An industry insider suggests the no-offer streak could continue through the holiday Tuesdays on Dec 23 and Dec 30, with the discount possibly returning only on Jan 6, 2026, if momentum holds.
- Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. The film is backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios and directed by Aditya Dhar.
- A sequel is already scheduled for release on March 19, 2026.
Fans and insiders are also buzzing about fellow actor Samantha praising Ranveer’s transformation in Dhurandhar, calling him “unreal” — a neat footnote to the film’s runaway success.
