Abhishek Bachchan joins GIFT City real estate boom
Abhishek Bachchan is stepping into real estate with a major project in GIFT City, Gandhinagar. He has entered a profit-sharing partnership with producer and developer Anand Pandit to create a luxury complex of residential, office and retail spaces covering more than one million square feet of built-up area.
The land’s backstory: from Big B’s investment to a big return
The land earmarked for the project has an interesting family connection. The parcel was bought over a decade ago by Amitabh Bachchan during his stint as Gujarat’s brand ambassador. The 5.72-acre plot, located in Shahpur village near GIFT City, was purchased for Rs. 7 crore from Virambhai Rudabhai Gamara. The deal was executed by Rajesh Rishikesh Yadav, then managing director of ABCL, who acted on Amitabh’s behalf as power-of-attorney.
Values have surged since. The same land is now estimated to be worth around Rs. 210 crore — a jump of roughly Rs. 203 crore from the original purchase price. Shahpur village head H K Patel said this kind of high-profile investment has boosted local confidence and helped push real estate prices up, accelerating development in the area.
How the project will unfold
The Bachchan family will retain ownership of the land while development and execution are handled by Lotus Developers. Lotus will manage design, planning and construction, and the execution will be carried out by their subsidiary, Rise Root Projects Pvt. Ltd. The arrangement is structured as a profit-sharing deal between Abhishek Bachchan and the developer, with the finished project promising high-end residences, corporate office space and retail outlets.
- Project size: over 1 million sq ft of built-up area
- Uses: luxury residential, office and retail
- Land ownership: remains with the Bachchan family
- Developer/contractor: Lotus Developers (execution via Rise Root Projects)
Amitabh Bachchan’s recent Gujarat visit and ISPL buzz
While preparations for the GIFT City project draw attention, Amitabh Bachchan was in Gujarat over the weekend and created quite a stir in Surat. The veteran actor attended the opening ceremony of the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) at Lalbhai Stadium — an event that brought together celebrity names like Akshay Kumar, Suriya, Ram Charan and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Video clips from the event showed Amitabh being warmly mobbed by fans as he arrived. He owns one of the ISPL teams, Majhi Mumbai, and flew to Surat in a chartered flight accompanied by Anand Pandit. The star-studded presence only raised excitement for the tournament, which runs from January 9 to February 6.
What this means for Bollywood and real estate
The Bachchans’ move is another example of Bollywood stars diversifying into property and large-scale development. With family-owned land being developed through a mutually beneficial partnership, this project could boost GIFT City’s luxury offerings and continue the upward trend in regional property values. For the film world, it’s another instance of showbiz capital helping shape India’s urban landscape.
As the project takes shape, eyes will be on construction plans and timelines — and on how the Bachchans balance legacy land ownership with a high-profile commercial vision in Gujarat’s fast-evolving real estate scene.
