Bazmee reunites with Akshay Kumar after 15 years
Filmmaker Anees Bazmee has confirmed he’s teaming up with Akshay Kumar again after a decade-and-a-half. The duo, who last worked together on Thank You (2011), are reportedly prepping a new comedy — and Bazmee says the script is almost ready.
Script, schedule and what we know
Speaking to Mid-Day, Bazmee revealed he is currently finishing the screenplay. “It is a comedy. I am writing the script right now, it’s almost complete. If everything goes as planned, we will start shooting soon,” he said. The project is untitled for now, and no official cast or start date has been announced.
Remake rumours: Sankranthiki Vasthunam?
There has been chatter that the film might be a remake of the Telugu action-comedy Sankranthiki Vasthunam. Bazmee chose not to comment directly on those reports. Earlier coverage from Bollywood Hungama suggested Bazmee is attracted to the core idea — a lead character caught between his wife and an ex-girlfriend — but plans to rework the Telugu flavour to suit Hindi audiences.
On their working relationship
Bazmee spoke warmly about his long-standing bond with Akshay, describing it as built on mutual love and respect. The director added that Akshay was very happy when he heard about the new film, and that they have kept in touch over the years despite the gap between collaborations.
Where Akshay stands professionally
Akshay Kumar already has a busy slate ahead. Upcoming projects include:
- Haiwaan (directed by Priyadarshan)
- Bhoot Bangla (directed by Priyadarshan)
- Hera Pheri 3 (return to the franchise with Priyadarshan)
Fans of the Bazmee–Akshay pairing will be keeping a close eye on this reunion — a fresh comedy from the team promises plenty of laughs and high-energy entertainment.
