Deepak Mukut: “Apne 2 will go ahead as a homage to Dharmendra”
Producer Deepak Mukut has pushed back against director Anil Sharma‘s claim that the sequel to the Deol family film Apne cannot move forward without the family patriarch, Dharmendra. Mukut says the opposite: the film should and will be made now, as a tribute.
Going forward despite controversy
Mukut explains that he and Sunny Deol were already working on the project with Dharmendra. With the patriarch’s recent passing, Mukut says, “Now Sunny and I are going to work on Apne as a homage to Dharam ji. He will be there in the project in spirit.” He adds that he will meet Sunny once the mourning period finishes to finalize plans.
Who will be in Apne 2?
- Sunny Deol — returning as a central figure
- Bobby Deol — expected to reprise his role
- Karan Deol — set to play a stellar role in the sequel
- Dharmendra — honoured in spirit as the film becomes a tribute
Tension with Anil Sharma
Mukut said he was “surprised and annoyed” by Sharma’s announcement that Apne 2 was off after Dharmendra’s death. “He is not authorized to make such a rash statement,” Mukut said, noting that Sharma denies having made the remark. “It is not Anil Sharma’s call to go ahead with the project or not. It is up to Sunny and I to take the project ahead and we are going ahead full throttle. We owe it to Dharam ji and his fans all over the world.”
Director change is possible
When asked whether a new director might be brought in, Mukut did not rule it out. “It is a possibility. We may have a new director. That is not important. The important thing is, we are going ahead with Apne 2 as a homage to Dharamji with Sunny, Bobby and Karan Deol.”
The sequel now looks set to be both a family drama and a tribute to Dharmendra’s legacy — with the Deol family driving the project forward despite the recent controversy.
