Sunny Leone’s Mathura appearance called off after protests
Sunny Leone’s planned appearance in Mathura for a private New Year programme has been cancelled after strong opposition from some religious organisations in the holy city. The actress was scheduled to attend an event at a local hotel, but organisers pulled the plug following protests.
Clarification from Daniel Weber: it wasn’t a New Year’s show
Sunny’s husband, Daniel Weber, spoke up to clear the air. He explained, “First off, it’s not a New Year’s show. Her New Year’s show is in Hyderabad. Everyone knows. It’s publicized everywhere. She’s had a show almost every day for the last five, six, seven days.”
Response to criticism and feeling of being singled out
Daniel expressed frustration at the need to constantly prove their allegiance to India. He said the couple has lived in India for 16 years and consider themselves committed citizens. “We have been, I believe, good citizens. We’ve done plenty of good deeds from the goodness of our heart because we like to give back to a country that has given us so much,” he said, adding that it is surprising to still face such opposition after so many years.
Sunny’s visits bring business and entertainment, says Daniel
Daniel defended Sunny’s presence in cities, highlighting the positive impact she brings. “When she visits a city, it brings revenue, brings business, brings eyeballs, and it… is not bringing anything bad. It is bringing entertainment. And I believe that we should celebrate that,” he said, calling the protests strange, especially after a long period without incidents.
They’ll respect the decision — but hope for a change
Though disappointed, Daniel said they will respect the organisers’ decision. He also expressed hope that Mathura will one day invite them back and reconsider. “I hope that they do one-day invite us back and realize that that was a wrong decision. But we will respect it and let them do what they want to do. And we will go somewhere else and have great entertainment somewhere else,” he added, wishing everyone a good year.
What this means going forward
- Sunny’s confirmed New Year performance remains scheduled in Hyderabad.
- The cancelled Mathura appearance highlights sensitivities around celebrity events in religious cities.
- Despite the setback, the couple plans to continue their work and public appearances elsewhere.
The cancellation stirred reactions online and in local circles, but Daniel’s calm, measured reply aims to keep the focus on entertainment and goodwill. For now, Sunny and Daniel will move ahead with other engagements while hoping for warmer welcomes in future visits.
