Paresh Rawal: Not part of Drishyam 3, says he passed on the role
After months of speculation, veteran actor Paresh Rawal has clarified that he has not signed up for Drishyam 3. The film, which is set to release on October 2, 2026, has been the subject of intense casting rumours — one of which named Rawal as a new addition to the cast. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, he dismissed those reports.
He was approached, but didn’t feel the role
Paresh Rawal confirmed the makers did approach him, but he turned it down. “No, I have not. There’s no truth to these reports at all,” he told the publication. When asked if an offer was made, he replied, “Yes, the makers did approach me. But I didn’t feel that the role was suitable for me. Maza nahin aaya (on reading about my part).”
Rawal was complimentary about the screenplay, adding, “But the script is very good. I was really impressed. But even in a compelling script, you need a role that you feel excited about. Warna maza nahin aayega.”
Where he stands now
The actor also spoke about his recent release Thamma, noting that he’d heard good feedback: “Yes, I heard it is doing well.” He mentioned he was in Ahmedabad, suggesting he might not have seen the film yet.
Why Drishyam remains a big draw
The Drishyam franchise has been a rare Hindi thriller that earned both box-office success and a fierce fan following. The first film (2015) gained steady appreciation over time, turning into a cult favourite. That momentum produced a spectacular opening for Drishyam 2 (2022), which became a blockbuster and sparked even higher expectations for the upcoming third installment.
Quick reminder: the story
- Drishyam follows a man who goes to extreme lengths to protect his family after his wife and elder daughter accidentally kill a young man who tried to molest them.
- The deceased is the son of a powerful cop, who uses all his influence to catch the protagonist — setting up the moral and legal tug-of-war that continues into the sequel.
What this means for fans
With Paresh Rawal out of the picture for now, fans will be watching casting updates closely as the October 2026 release date approaches. Rawal’s honesty — praising the script but refusing a part that didn’t spark him — is a reminder that even strong projects need the right fit for actors to come on board.
