Sonu Sood’s fight against breast cancer: free surgeries, dignity and hope
Actor-turned-philanthropist Sonu Sood is turning attention and action towards a cause that affects millions of women across India: breast cancer. Through the Sood Charity Foundation he has launched a nationwide push to make breast cancer treatment accessible, stigma-free and, crucially, free for those who cannot afford it.
A simple mission, a huge impact
Sonu sums up his purpose in clear words: “Jab maine Sood Charity Foundation ki shuruaat ki, toh mera mission tha ki is desh ki mahilaon ko breast cancer se mukt karna hai. Bahut sari mahilaen jo is takleef se guzarti hain, kai baar hospital ja hi nahi paati ya bata hi nahi pati.” He recognised the silent suffering of women—especially in underserved areas—and decided to act rather than only raise awareness.
The results are already visible. Sonu says that the foundation has facilitated more than 500 surgeries so far, saving lives and offering new beginnings to families. “Aaj, 500 se upar surgeries ho chuki hain, 500 se upar jaane bach chuki hain, aur 500 se zyada parivaaron ko ek naya jeevan mil chuka hai,” he shared, calling the milestone just the start of a much larger effort.
How the programme works
- Free surgeries and treatment: The foundation arranges and covers surgical procedures, radiation and other necessary care for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
- Nationwide reach: Sonu insists no woman will be turned away because of where she lives—cases from remote and urban areas are being identified and brought forward.
- Support network: Local volunteers, medical professionals and the foundation’s team work together to find cases, provide transport and ensure timely treatment.
Gratitude for the medical community
Sonu made sure to acknowledge the doctors, surgeons and radiation specialists who have worked with the foundation. Their expertise and willingness to support free treatment have been central to the programme’s success. He also thanked the many people who spot cases, reach out and help bring patients to the foundation in time.
Calling the nation to help
While celebrating the progress, Sonu keeps pushing forward. “Yeh sirf shuruaat hai,” he says, urging anyone who knows a woman battling breast cancer to come forward. The foundation promises to take full responsibility for treatment, completely free of cost.
In a country where healthcare access can be unequal and stigma prevents many women from seeking help, Sonu Sood’s initiative is a reminder that compassion backed by concrete action can change lives. For families touched by this programme, the benefits are practical as well as emotional: survival, restored dignity and renewed hope.
What you can do
- If you know a woman showing symptoms or already diagnosed with breast cancer, reach out to local welfare groups or the foundation’s volunteers so she can get proper care.
- Spread awareness in your community about early detection and the availability of free treatment options.
- Support efforts that remove stigma and encourage women to seek timely medical advice.
Sonu Sood’s work with the Sood Charity Foundation adds another meaningful chapter to his public life—one where celebrity influence is channelled into accessible healthcare and tangible hope for those who need it most.
