Varun Dhawan shuts down Luka Chuppi 2 rumours
Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has put an end to persistent rumours linking him to a sequel of the 2019 rom-com Luka Chuppi. During a live Q&A on X (formerly Twitter), the actor made it clear that he hasn’t signed any film beyond his confirmed releases and that there is no sequel in his slate at the moment.
His exact reply
When asked about his upcoming projects following his recent announcement, Varun replied bluntly: “Not signed any film. There is no sequel of any other film I’m doing. Will decide.” The short, direct answer effectively dismissed ongoing reports that he would star opposite Sharvari in Luka Chuppi 2.
Where the Luka Chuppi 2 buzz came from
Reports had circulated for months that Luka Chuppi 2 was moving into pre-production in early 2026, with Varun and Sharvari named as the lead pair. Those stories suggested delays of six to eight months and pointed to scheduling conflicts for director Laxman Utekar as a reason the project had not progressed.
Varun’s clarification now makes it clear he has not committed to that sequel — or any similar franchise project — at this time. The original Luka Chuppi, released in 2019, starred Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon and remains a popular reference point for rom-com sequels.
What Varun is working on
While he denies signing new films beyond what’s announced, Varun does have a major release lined up. He plays Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya in the high-profile war drama Border 2, which is scheduled to hit theatres on January 23, 2026. The film’s ensemble includes Diljit Dosanjh, Sunny Deol, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa and Mona Singh among others.
He was also recently asked about projects after the announcement of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which prompted the fan Q&A where he addressed the sequel rumours.
What this means for fans
Varun’s firm reply should calm speculation for now. Fans will likely keep an eye on official announcements for any future commitments, but until the actor confirms otherwise, Luka Chuppi 2 remains unconfirmed from his side.
For now, audiences can look forward to his performance in Border 2 and await any new project updates directly from Varun or his team.
