Actor Sourabh Raaj Jain has added his voice to the growing concern over recent changes to how the Aravalli Hills are defined, after a Supreme Court update that experts warn could strip legal protection from almost 90% of the range.
Sourabh reacts on social media
Known for speaking up on social and environmental issues, Sourabh shared a detailed post after watching videos and checking reports online. Tagging authorities, he wrote, “Hope it is NOT what it seems to be,” and urged citizens to stay alert about what he called a potential long-term ecological challenge.
What the court change means
The new criterion says a landform will be considered part of the Aravalli only if it rises at least 100 metres above the local terrain. Environmentalists say this benchmark is scientifically weak and could drastically reduce the protected area, opening the door for renewed mining and construction in previously safeguarded zones.
Why experts are worried
- The Aravallis are among the world’s oldest mountain ranges and help protect Delhi-NCR from desertification and rising temperatures.
- Many lower ridges, though under 100 metres, play a key role in groundwater recharge and in keeping dust and pollution in check.
- Removing protection could harm local climate regulation and make the region more vulnerable to environmental damage.
Sourabh joins scientists and activists
Sourabh, who continues to connect with audiences through TV and digital roles and was last seen in Tu Dhadkan Main Dil, stood with environmentalists urging authorities to rethink the definition. They stress that decisions made now could affect North India’s ecological stability for years to come.
With celebrities, experts and citizens sounding the alarm, the spotlight is back on the Aravallis — and on whether legal protections will be restored or weakened at a time when the region’s environmental health is already fragile.
